Subject Matter: Zoo Animal Scavenger Hunt

Grade Level: 2nd Grade

Lesson Objective: 

Learners will demonstrate knowledge of/understanding of/ability to understand animals babies come in many different sizes. Some look like their parents when they are born and some have completely different characteristics than their parents. Students will learn the important role zoos have in helping to protect wildlife by doing research on animals and the survival of their young.

Common Core State Standard and/or Academic Content Standard:
Writing Standard: 6. With guidance and support from adults, use a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers. 
8. Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
Fluency: 4. Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.


Technology Standard: NETS for Students: 1. Empowered Learner: Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving, and demonstrating competency informed by the learning sciences.  


 Student Research Questions:

1. I am the king of the jungle and I have a huge mane, what am I?

 Subsidiary Questions (6-10):

2. I am an animal with feathers?

3. I am an animal with stripes, can you guess what I am?

4. I am an animal that has a long neck, I like to eat leaves, what am I?

5. I am a reptile and I like to swim in the water?

6. I am an animal with a pouch, what am I?

7. I am an amphibian and I like to jump, I do not look like my parents, what am I?

Assessment: The students will gain knowledge about the animal, reptiles, and learn how to navigate through the web. They will also be able to find the answers, learn facts about the animal in question. This lesson would be great to introduce them to new animal classifications.
